2010 Valley Wide Chipping Program
2010 proved to be a very successful year of growth for the "On Demand" neighborhood chipping program. In its 5th season, The Big Bear Lake Fire Department, Big Bear City Fire Department and San Bernardino County Fire Department combined their resources to offer chipping for the entire Big Bear Valley. Over 4,200 requests for chipping were received and over 1,000 tons of vegetation were removed. The majority of chipping requests were picked up within two weeks of the requests. In addition, Bear Valley residents actively participated in the program by logging 7,171 hours from creating defensible space on www.thinisin.org . The logging of these hours helps to maintain the grant funding responsible for the availability of the chipping program the following year. The 2011 Valley Wide Chipping Program ran from June 1st to October 31st.
